Gordie was hauling firewood and supplies for the club from the time he was a small boy, in his words, serving as his father's "pack-horse." In 1972, Gordie and his Dad were two of the five who reenacted the climb of the frozen five 50 years earlier, in a one day climb up the COG route.

Equestrian reining competition essentially shows off the skills and athletic abilities necessary in the working ranch horse but does so within the confines of a show pen.  Since 2000, Gordie has trained his own quarter horses for this precise, fast-paced, resistance-free sport.

Gordon climbed 8 times with the club, the last time in 1976.   It was his 1975 member-year climb when the club’s fireworks provided the first official event of Colorado’s celebration of the state’s centennial and the nation’s bicentennial.
