FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The AdAmAn Club Selects New Member, Officers and Climb Dedication for 2009-‘10

Colorado Springs, December 8----- The AdAmAn Club selected Bill Slaughter of Colorado Springs as its 92nd member at its annual meeting on December 5th. Bill is a retired USAF Lt. Colonel and currently works as the Outreach Coordinator for the Colorado Springs REI store.

Bill has lead or participated in over 200 climbs to mountain summits above 14,000 ft. These include all 54 Colorado "14ers" (22 of which have been winter climbs), 5 winter ascents of Mt Rainier, 18,000 ft Mt Popocatepetal in Mexico, and 2 climbs of Denali (Mt McKinley) in Alaska. He has climbed Pikes Peak a total of 127 times. He has also competed in 21 marathons and 16 ultramarathons including two "Ironman" length triathlons, 6 Pikes Peak marathons, a 24 hour relay marathon, two each of 35, 50, and 62 mile races, and 2 completions of the Leadville Trail 100 mile Endurance Run.

Even with all of his physical activity, Bill has also found time to volunteer in the community. He is a past Chairman of the Board of the Pikes Peak Challenge Foundation, and past Chairman and current member of the Barr Camp Board of Directors. Bill also currently serves on the Board of Directors of both the Catamount Institute and the Trails and Open Space Coalition.

As the new member, Bill will have the honor of breaking trail on the icy slopes of Barr Trail to the summit of Pikes Peak. Weather permitting, the Club's members and guests will greet the New Year at midnight, December 31st with a spectacular fireworks display at the 14,110 foot summit.

This year's climb will be dedicated to the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum in recognition of their vital role in our community. Earlier this year, the AdAmAn club donated its historical archives to the museum for safe keeping and professional archival.

The AdAmAn Club has selected new officers who will begin their tenures following this year's climb and include Don Sanborn as President, Phil Stafford as Vice President and Cliff Donnelly as Secretary and Treasurer. The Club would like to give a sincere thank you to previous officers Ted Lindeman as President, Jeff Williams as Vice President and Phil Stafford as Secretary and Treasurer for outstanding leadership and service to the organization.

The founders of the AdAmAn Club, known affectionately as the "Frozen Five", made their first New Year's trek up Pikes Peak in 1922. The club has since climbed Pikes Peak every New Year's Eve without fail. The group gets its name from the practice of adding only one new member each year.
