PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ADAMAN CLUB

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The AdAmAn Club Prepares for New Year’s Eve Climb and Welcomes Don Ellis as Guest for 50th Anniversary of His Eagle Scout Climb

Colorado Springs, December 27----- With Christmas behind us, and plenty of snow on Pikes Peak, the AdAmAn club begins looking forward to its annual New Year’s Eve trek up Pikes Peak. For twenty years (1959 – 1978) the club invited an Eagle Scout to accompany them on the climb. This year the club is pleased to have the very first Scout, Don Ellis, an avid mountaineer, back to climb on the 50th anniversary of his 1st climb! Ted Lindeman, the current club President, says “we haven’t asked him, but we like to think that climbing with the club led to his becoming quite an accomplished climber”.

This year’s guests include: Brooke Chesnut, Don Ellis, Bill Lahman, Tim McElderry, Ann Nichols, Mike Silvestro, Bob Stellick and Wally Wininger. We will also have Dougald MacDonald along to report on the climb for Denver’s 5280 magazine.

Several members of the club have taken delivery of and prepared the fireworks for Thursday night’s fireworks show. Everything is in place and ready for the show. Weather permitting, the Club's members and guests will greet the New Year at midnight, December 31st with a spectacular fireworks display on the 14,115 foot summit.

This year you can follow the club’s progress reports on the internet via facebook (“The AdAmAn Club”), twitter (“theadamanclub”) or their website (www.adaman.org). Members will be posting progress reports that will be available at any or all of these sites. Of course, the club will also use signal mirrors to provide their traditional progress signal to Colorado Springs when they reach timberline around 11:00 a.m. on the 31st.

The founders of the AdAmAn Club, known affectionately as the "Frozen Five", made their first New Year's trek up Pikes Peak in 1922. The club has since climbed Pikes Peak every New Year's Eve without fail. The group gets its name from the practice of adding only one new member each year. The AdAmAn Club is self-funded along with financial support from a few special friends of the club.
