Ann Nichols
Ann, a life-long resident of Manitou Springs, graduated from Colorado College in 1968 and earned a PhD in Economics from Colorado State University in 1975. She worked for Colorado Springs Utilities for 25 years in various roles in the Finance Department, retiring in 2002. She is currently an independent consultant to a number of metropolitan water districts.
Ann is also active on a number of Boards and Commissions including:
· Manitou Springs Historic Preservation Commission - past Chair
· Barr Camp Board of Directors - Treasurer
· Board Member of the Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority - past Chair
· Board Member of the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District - Treasurer
· Energy Resource Center - Board member
· El Paso County Water Authority - Secretary
Ann is an avid hiker and traveler who's exploits include the following climbs and excursions:
· Colorado Fourteeners – 1985- current – climbed all but seven of the normally recognized fourteeners and have climbed some numerous times
· Kilimanjaro – 19,300 feet – climbed in 1991
· Volcanoes of Mexico – Orizaba and Popo – 16-18,000 – 1988
· Nepal – numerous treks at high altitude including
o Annapurna Circuit – approximately 17,500 feet at highest point - 1983
o Everest Base Camp – approximately 18,300 feet at highest point - 1984
o Kanchanjunga – approximately 15,000 feet at highest point – 1987
o Manaslu – approximately 17,000 feet at highest point – 1995
· Pakistan – Baltoro Glacier – approximately 17,000 feet at highest point – 1986
· Peru – Cordillera Huayuash – approximately 16,000 feet at highest point – 1996
· Chile – Torres de Paine – 1998
· Kazakstan – Tien Shan Mountains – approximately 15,000 feet at highest point - 2000
· Argentina – Aconcagua – approximately 16,500 feet at highest point – 1999
· Bolivia – Cordillera Real – approximately 16,500 feet at highest point - 2005
· Ladakh, India – 2 weeks hiking at elevations from 12,500 – 17,500 feet – 2007
· GR20 in Corsica – 1993
· England/Scotland -
o Pennine Way – 3 weeks hiking on this long distance trail -1989
o Coast to Coast - approximately 3 weeks hiking on this long distance trail – low elevations - 1992
· Altai Mountains in Mongolia and Siberia – approximately 15,000 feet at highest point - 2003
· Spain – hiking in the Pyrenees – 1995
· Spain – Picos de Europa - 1991
· Peru - Carabaya (in the Cordillera Vilcanota and the Cordillera Vilcambamba) – two weeks from 15,000 -17,200 feet – numerous high altitude passes – August, 2008
· Uganda – three weeks in the country with 11 days spent in the Rwenzoris Mountains (also known as the Mountains of the Moon) hiking a circuit through the Mountains over very difficult terrain at elevations from 5,500 feet to 14,500 feet. Approximately one week spent tracking Mountain Gorillas in moderate terrain – July, 2009
